A notice pasted by Surulere Local Government Area in Lagos State, in which residents were asked to pay for using radios and televisions have surfaced on social media.
While some netizens were shocked by the development, others said it has become a usual thing for over six years.
The notice ordered the people affected to pay for their radio and television permit or risk sealing off of their properties.
Reacting to the news, one Taiwo Adeniyi, whose phone numbers were displayed on the notice, confirmed that the notice is in line with the by-law of Lagos State, and that the people living in such areas as Surulere are meant to pay an annual sum of N1,250 depending on the type of appliance.
He recalled that the said by-law, which was earlier annulled in 2015, was reinstated in order to generate revenue for Lagos State and Surulere Local Government.
He further added that anyone who needs clarification on the matter should visit the Surulere Local Government Area.
