JUST IN: Major reason Why ASUU embarked on indefinite Strike(PHOTOS)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on the 29th of August 2022, made a press release stating that the Union embarks on Strike in a bid to save public universities.

According to the release signed by the president of the National Executive Council (NEC), Emmanuel Osedeke, the Union held a meeting on the 28th of August 2022 to review its resolution to roll over the Nationwide Strike.

NEC expressed its regret over the deceit ASUU has experienced from the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), as well as the unending negotiations that always ends in deadlock.NEC also stated that the claim that the FGN would need to borrow 1.6 Trillion Naira to implement the Draft Agreement is not true, and that the take-it-or-leave-it offers of N30,000 and N60,000 monthly salary thrown at the union are miserable, unilateral and insulting.

While expressing its disappointment towards the FGN, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and other agents of government for their attitude and the deliberate falsehood and misinterpretation of facts aimed at scoring cheap political gains, the National Executive Council also frowned at some Vice Chancellors and chairpersons of governing councils of State Universities for undermining the Union’s struggle in their various Universities.NEC also showed great concern towards Nigerian students, and ensured them that the struggle and sacrifice is only to grant them access to quality education.

However, NEC appreciated the efforts of eminent Nigerians and groups to mediate in the lingering crises, while concluding that the strike will roll over to a comprehensive, total and indefinite strike action with effect from 12:01am on Monday, 29th August 2022.
