The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Imo State University Owerri (ASUU-IMSU), has released a memo denying claims that the institution pulled out of the ASUU strike and called Students back for resumption of academic activities.
According to the release signed by the Chairperson of ASUU-IMSU, Comrade Odinakachukwu Ejiogu, “ASUU-IMSU is not on “sympathy strike” with the national body, but is part of the national struggle because we have concrete stake in the issues that are in contention summarized as follows:

a. Renegotiation of the conditions of service.
b. Deployment of UTAS in place of the discredited IPPIS.
c . Release of N170b for university revitalization, etc”
The press release noted that there are also a number of local problems facing IMSU, which are yet to be addressed.
In conclusion, the university confirmed that the strike is still on, and called on the IMSU management to use the opportunity to address the local issues facing the institution.
