Retired military officers have on Monday, September 26, staged a heavy protest at the Nigerian Defence Academy Headquarters to protest over unpaid allowances.
According to reports, the angry retirees defied the downpour on Monday morning and blocked all the access points to the Defence Academy to communicate their grievances.
They also blocked the road that leads to the Ministry located at Ship House on Olusegun Obasanjo Way in Abuja.
They bitterly alleged that the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd), has for long neglected their plight.
The spokesperson of the Coalition Of Concerned Veterans, Abiodun Durowaiye-Heberts, told reporters that they would not leave the premises until their demands are met, even if it meant sleeping over.
Families of deceased personnel also complained of the level of insensitivity displayed by the ministry, for leaving them to suffer even after their husbands died while serving the country.
In the same vein, the national secretary of RMNAF, Roy Okhidievbie, said the reason for the protest is to demand the payment of their security debarment allowance from the federal government.
He alleged that despite the approval of the payment by President Buhari, the Minister has refused to disburse them.
However, there is no tangible reaction from the Ministry yet, as at the time of this report.
