BREAKING: Court orders ASUU to Suspend Strike

The National Industrial Court has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off the ongoing Strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been ordered by the National Industrial Court to call off its seven months industrial action.

As filed by the Minister of Labor and Employment on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the court has moved to resolve the lingering ASUU strike today, Wednesday, September 21.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. J.U.K. Igwe pleaded with the court to call off the strike, owing to the fact that the application for suspension which was dated September 12, was filed the same day.

However, the counsel to the defendant, Mr. Femi Falana showed affidavits which reasoned that the Minister had no power to order the court to ask ASUU to call off the strike.

Falana has therefore urged the court to overlook the application or direct both parties to the Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP) so as to follow due process.
